A ragtag group of techies, data-makers, registrants, marketing pros, and a government employee decided to form a hockey team. After a longish deliberation, they called it the Burnaby Burn. Funny? No. A cop out? Kinda.
As the name stuck and the original orange jerseys were created, there were no shortage of opposing team’s players asking us: “Are you firefighters? Because if you’re firefighters, we’re just gonna pack up and go home.” I don’t know what other teams have against firefighters, but clearly, we’re not like the modern heroes in red trucks and gumboots. None of us even owns a fire extinguisher.
